Free SHSAT Prep Since 2017
Delta Prep was founded in 2017 by Arif Mahmud and Jeffrey Wong with a purpose - to provide students who are from low-income or immigrant families with free, high quality SHSAT tutoring. Our dream has never changed and will never change.
Ever since, we have had hundreds of students come through our doors to learn with our volunteer tutors who are either attending Specialized High Schools or have graduated from one.
Our SHSAT Prep is completely free and is completely volunteer run from our Board to our volunteers.
How Does The Delta Prep SHSAT Program Work?
Please note, we operate over Zoom and and not offering in-person SHSAT tutoring at this moment in time. Also, due to high demand, we are opening our Summer Program to incoming 7th, 8th, and 9th graders.
The Delta Prep program has anywhere from 8 to 10 sessions that take place from July to August on Sunday mornings from 9AM to 12PM.
We strongly encourage each student to attend every session - we believe that the more time a student spends in class, the more a student will get the academic support they need to thrive and learn. We also know sometimes external factors may prevent students from coming to class. Students may miss school for illness, emergencies, or for religious reasons with a notice via email before class for a given session.
During sessions, we try to call on students to solve some questions or problems to engage the class and to enhance the learning experience. In addition, after every session, we assign students quizzes on Google Classroom that they will be expected to complete to monitor their progress and understanding of the Delta Prep curriculum.
Please note that every year, we have a surplus of students apply to the Delta Prep program and those students are placed on a waitlist until a spot opens up. Students who are accepted into the program but do not provide ample notice for absences or lateness, or show a lack of participation, may be removed from the program and replaced by a student on the waitlist.
Who Are Our Volunteer Tutors?
Delta Prep tutors are Specialized High School graduates or are currently attending one. They are successful in their studies and are gracious to offer their time to assist Delta Prep students in their pursuit of gaining acceptance into a Specialized High School.
Before tutoring our students, all tutors receive comprehensive training. If needed, tutors receive guidance from our senior members of Delta Prep, who are either in college or have graduated from college and are working full-time positions.
Our tutors and curriculum have led to a notable number of our students earning admission into specialized high schools.
